The remediation of landfill is designed so the existing waste is remediated without moving the waste. The total area of project is 17,5 ha. The area that needs to be remediated is about 12,5 ha. The 6,5 ha of this area would be formed by the body of landfill, and on its boundary the bale of waste would be placed as boundary embankment. The other 6 ha (includes asphalt road) will be remediated and greenery would be placed. |

The remediation will start by leveling slope of the landfill on 1:3 so that part of the disposed waste near the clay embankment (formed on northeast side that protects from Ilovik lake) move to the center of the body of landfill (about 40,000 m3 of waste). The deratization and disinfection of landfill will be conducted, the spread out waste will be collected and body of landfill will be formed. The base of waste (today about 19,000 m3) will be used as boundary embankment and will be placed on boundary of body of landfill. The remediation will be conducted parallel with waste dumping form cities of Karlovac, Duga Resa and Ozalj as well as from municipalities Barilovići, Bosiljevo, Draganić, Generalski Stol, Kamanje, Krnjak, Lasinja, Netretić, Ribnik and Žakanje.
After the body of landfill is formed, all disposed waste will be leveled with inert material layer and gas drainage link will be formed. The air ducts will be placed (30 m a part) and will be connected eight HDPE pipes. The active degasification will be implemented on site, so the flare will be installed to burn collected gases. The flare will be installed near exit entry zone. After gas drainage layer is constructed, the geotextile protective layer will be placed, as well as sealing layer of clay with permeability coefficient k=10-9 m/s or concrete carpet with similar characteristics. The recultivating layer will be placed on top of this layer. This layer is filled with fertilizer, so the grass or other plants can be planted.
The waste on rest of 6,5 ha area will be leveled and finishing covering layer will be placed. The recycling yard will be constructed near exit-entry zone, nonhazardous waste storage and business area- municipal services The divided system of drainage is planned for this location. The boundary channel will be constructed to collect precipitation water from closed part of landfill. The water from surface for vehicle washing as well as waste water from recycling yard will be processed in oil separator and coagulation tank. The boundary channel will take wastewater through coagulation tank to Pojatno channel. The wastewater from nonhazardous waste storage as well as from part of recycling yard will also go through separator and oil separator is discharged in Telačak channel The fence will be placed around landfill. Landfill is 1st category landfill. The waste will be disposed on landfill during remediation .
