The work on sanitary
landfill depends on number of factors . The preparation
work is done based on technological project, the sanitary
landfill is constructed and is worked on , while other
technical details that are used to develop rest of technical
documentation. The schedule of work is given in work
instruction and waste disposal plan. We are emphasizing
that after usage permit is obtained the water usage
permit and certificate must be obtained. The employees
need to take in consideration that all changes must
be properly documented
The following sign must be on the entrance: WASTE
LANDFILL - KAŠTIJUN, 1ST CATEGORY LANDFILL, JP "Herculanea"
d.o.o. - PULA, hours of operation: MONDAY-FRIDAY 7-19
h. The landfill must be open 7 days a week, and closed
on weekends. The operating hours are from 7 to 19 h
in first and second shift, while the security guards
are present in the third shift.
The landfill must be fenced with fence at least 2m
high, and entrance will be possible only via access
road through automatic gate. The guard directs vehicle
at place of disposal. The exact place of disposal will
be determined by landfill supervisor. The only vehicles
allowed on site are municipal waste company vehicles,
as well as other companies and private transport vehicles
that have permission for disposing waste in this location.
The residents can deliver waste up to 0,5 m3 volume.
Other vehicles must obtained permission from landfill
owner and they must give to security guard before entrance,
The guards on entrance 2 will perform the inspection
of waste as well as on Entrance 1 and keep records on
waste inspections. The records contain following data:
? vehicle data (tag no, type of vehicle, and usable
volume)
? waste data: type (municipal, bulky, construction,
green, technological), quantity (since there is no volume,
usable volume of vehicle is used) and waste owner
? type of waste disposal, covering of waste and ensuring
stability of disposed waste
? inspection of content and quantity of landfill gases,
? content of leachate water, content and quality of
ground water, drainage of precipitation water and recultivating
of part of landfill filled up with waste.
? emergency situations (fire, explosion, weather related
problems)
? security guards (name and notes)
The integral part of the records are waste documentation
(documents on technological waste), equipment used,
used material, inspection and measures undertaken under
environmental inspection personnel orders and overview
of natural and emergency events on landfill
The responsible person for landfill is landfill supervisor.
The dozer operator is also on the landfill and performs
supervisor's duty if supervisor is absent.
The employees must be trained to operate landfill in
safe manner and they must adhere to Workplace protection
Law and Fire protection law. They should also be educated
on landfill operation technology.
We also list the main characteristics of sanitary landfill:
this is disposal system where waste is disposed under
control on prepared ground, so harmful effects of uncontrolled
disposal are avoided. After designed height of waste
is achieved, the landfill will be closed and afterwards
closely monitored
• the preparation of location includes::
a) excavation and transfer of waste disposed on ground
around hole (carstic terrain) outside the planned work
zone, with slope 1:2,5-1:3
b) return of waste on newly prepared surface with waste
compacting and coveting of top layer of waste
c) construction of 3 wells on the deepest part of landfill
and installation of pumps for recirculation of water
collected in waste
• construction of road on location and access road
• construction of boundary channels for precipitation
waters
• construction of degasification system (pipes+torch)
• continuation of operation and remediation of landfill.
This will be achieved by placing inert material dike
with waste slope 1:3 and covering of old waste with
leveling layer
• disposal of waste with waste compacting
• covering of waste with water impermeable material
(clay) or LDPE layer
• waste compacting to designed height
• placement of finishing layer on filled up parts of
landfill (landfill closing)
• planting greenery
• monitoring
The waste goes through microbiological decomposition,
so the organic fraction of waste will be demineralized.
The process inside deposed waste cause waste settlement
