Goal: Temporary storage of hazardous waste in accordance with applicable regulation until final disposal.
Description:

"Kemis" storage facility serves as interim stage in hazardous waste management between collection company, producer and processing company. The part of waste is processed in Croatia, and majority of waste is exported and processed in chemical-physical or thermal processing facilities. Only agreed and certain types and quantities of waste are stored in these facilities.

The following particles are not stored in the facility

  • waste that has radioactive components
  • explosive, explosive material- 1st group poisonous particle in gas state
  • same type waste in quantities greater than designed space, and also it is taken in consideration that certain type of waste is under legal limits. The same does not apply on oil and oily water from separator, because there are higher capacities in temporary storage for this type of waste, in above ground tanks in C facility

The waste will be accepted only if it is from known source. Also, the liquid or solid nonhazardous waste can be stored here depending on market conditions.

The waste processing companies take over waste on advanced agreed schedule in quantities that is planned for processing that day.


The quantities and group of hazardous waste are recorded in accordance with Rules on hazardous waste management. The check-in records are kept in accordance with Rules on waste types. The check in records must be kept for 5 years. The copies also must be kept. The records on accidents, reliability of equipment, systems and other measuring equipment, management and supervision of storage operations, as well as fire protection must be kept in accordance with Flammable liquid rules.

The following operations with waste are conducted in the facility:

  • receiving of materials
  • transport to the storage
  • storage of the waste
  • exit from storage and loading on transport vehicles
  • managing empty and dirty packaging

There are seven employees that work in this storage facility, and these are:

storage facility manager B.Sc or A.S 1
chemical storage manager B.Sc. or A.S 1
storage worker HS degree 1
forklift driver vocationa 2
storage workers no requirement 2

The employee responsible for storage and his deputy must posses B.Sc or A.S in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or Pharmacy with 5 years experience. The storage employees do not have to have any degree, but must be trained on dangerous chemicals and protection measures. The training must be in accordance with applicable regulations. The security service must be there 24 h a day. The operating hours are from 8h to 16h.
