Supervision of remediation of illegal landfill Bazjaš in order to ensure that remediation is preformed in accordance with technical documentation and in accordance with applicable regulations

Illegal municipal waste landfill Bazjaš was established as Vinkovci temporary war landfill due to inability to access city landfill in Mirkovci due to the war
1st stage of remediation- performed in 2002. on part of landfill where waste was most at risk. It was 230 m long. The landfill was still used for municipal waste dumping including also a part that was remediated at the time.
2nd stage of remediation- performed on existing part of landfill 493 m long and construction of space for new waste dumping with waste disposal capacity large enough to receive waste for another 18 months. During second phase of remediation, the landfill was operational.
3rd stage of remediation (2005)- performed on leftover 122 m of landfill. At the start of this stage, the municipal waste was not disposed on existing landfill and the space built in 2nd phase for waste was used. The complete remediation 854 m was finished
4th stage of remediation (2006) was performed on new space with dimension 150*40 m and connection was built with existing part of landfill 35 m long. The work on remediation of the landfill "Bazjaš” 4th stage and closing of new space were finished on December 6th 2006.
5th stage- due to the continued waste dumping on Bazjaš after finishing 4th phase of remediation, it was necessary to construct space 5a and 5b (5th phase of remediation).
Space could not be constructed in designed dimension due to the fact that the construction would enter forest area, so the area was set out in so that equal volume of waste could be disposed. The position of new space is between Bazjaš channel and Bazjaš forest. The final b phase is situated between 3rd and 5 a stage
The 5th stage is constructed so the outlet channel and fire protection area could be placed
Due to bigger size of stages 5a and 5b 6 air exhausts were placed on 25 m distances.
Also, 5 air exhaust were raised on remediated parts (3rd phase), due to the fact that embankment crown was constructed on fall, and was lower than 5a and 5b embankment crowns.
The waste was also put in compact layers, and leveling layer of soil was placed as well
Due to the fact there was no new location for waste disposal, the waste was disposed on this location after the end of remediation, and the contractor raised embankment about 1 meter on already finished leveling layer of embankment crown. The waste was disposed here 10 days after the end of remediation (till 25th of July 2007) After 25th of July 2007, the final work on landfill closing was performed until 31st of August 2007.
The remediation of landfill is finished, and main gate were locked in order to block disposal of new waste on this location
