MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT IN DUBORVNIK – NERETVA COUNTY

SUMMARY

County of Dubrovnik - Neretva counts about 130.000 inhabitants today. The main branch of earning are hotels, restaurants and tourism. Insight in existing conditions is fortified that waste management is on very low level. All existing landfills are uncontrolled and can influence on environmental remarkable. On the basis of collected data about quantities and types of waste, the projection about waste quantities in the period for about 20 years is made. On the basis of results of research works and existing conditions, the suggestion about management of collected waste in next 10 years is given. In suggestion is given a new way of management with municipal and technological waste, introducing the separate collection of some waste materials on the place of its origin and its pretreatment and treatment. In this work the expenses of waste disposal on existing landfills are given and comparison with 3 or just 1 regional center for waste management, keeping in mind a new way of collecting some kinds of waste materials, landfill locations, the way of transportation (land-island, island-land, transfer station etc.).
