LANDFILL "DOLINE" - FIRST YEAR OPERATION

SUMMARY

The city of Bjelovar has solved the problem of waste disposal on the location “Doline” which has all necessary documentation and permissions, and whole procedure of building is managed in proportion with all law regulations which are in force in Republic of Croatia. After testing work, the landfill “Doline” started to work regularly and the results of 18 months of working of the landfill are presented in this work. The chosen location “Doline” is situated south-east from the city of Bjelovar on distance of 5 km, and between settlements Ždralovi and Stari Pavljani. The whole location is on the area of cca 9 ha. On the considered area, 10.593 households with 32.838 inhabitants is included in collecting the waste. The waste disposes on the working area of the landfill in layers, compacts and covers by clay. The control of pollution the waters is performed on few ways. The leachates are collected in the bottom of the landfill by means of drainage system. Collecting leachates are removed in the pool which volume is 60m3 and in the lagoon which volume is 300m3, and then recycling leachate through landfill is made. The surplus of water is transported on the equipment for purifying the waste water. The composition of the water in piezometers and recipient (upstream and downstream) is monitoring. Also, the composition and quantities of the waste which comes to the landfill is controlled.
