CLOSING OF EXISTING LANDFILL AND CONSTRUCTION OF NEW LANDFILL IN UMAG

SUMMARY

Buje area used landfill “Donji Picudo”. Since landfill was almost filled up with disposed waste, municipal waste company “6 May” started activities on closing existing landfill and construction of new nearby, so they could function as one unit. This paper show specific type pf remediation and closing of all landfill and opening new landfill. The new landfill would be constructed at the same time when old one would be remediated and closes. The new landfill would use part of old landfill for “recycling” of existing landfill. This way the remediation of old landfill would be finished and new space for waste would be created. The monitoring would be required for beginning of operation and 20 years after opening. The construction is planned in phases, so in case of construction of regional landfill work could stop, so cost will be kept at minimum.
