THE STRUCTURE OF MUNICIPAL WASTE TRENDS IN THE CITY OF VELIKA GORICA

SUMMARY

Since 1976., in the City of Velika Gorica, the waste management includes organized transportation and disposal of municipal waste at the landfill Mraclinska Dubrava, cat. I. With the help of Environment protection and Energetic efficiency Fund, the salvage program for this landfill started in 2004. and has,for the most part, been finished in 2005. Along with the repair works in the old part, the disposal begun in 3 tracts of the new landfill area, which had been built in congruence with all proscribed standarda and regulations. Since early 2005., all the waste disposed at site is being weighed before final disposal. Due to establishing the exact amount and content of municipal waste, the city of Velika Gorica and the company IPZ Uniprojekt MCF had been conducting the sorting of waste material on the three accasions. The first information date from the year 1990., and for the period 1999./2000. we have information relating to all four seasons of the year. The third sorting was conducted in the period 26. 06. – 01. 07. 2006. This research shows some variations in amounts of waste produced during each season, as well as the increase or decrease of certain types of serviceable waste. The sorting machine with openings of 0, 04 m was used to determine the structure of the waste. The waste material larger than 0, 04 m was sorted by hand, while the pieces of waste smaller than 0, 04 m have been analized and sorted additionally. The results of the sorting process had been statistically analized, and the samples used in the structure analysis werw being taken from different areas of the City during the given period of time.
