INVESTIGATIVE WORKS

INVESTIGATIVE WORKS
Fully remediation of landfills requires the undertaking of investigative works that will determine the existing situation and propose the optimal technological and economic solution for remediation. Investigative works determine the impact of the landfill on the environment, particularly on the soil and groundwater, where the works include geological and hydrogeological prospecting of the terrain, making piezometric wells for the purpose of sampling groundwater, making sounding wells for the purpose of taking samples of waste and soil, laboratory analysis of groundwater, soil and waste, and the conducting tests of eluates, testing the geomechanical and isolator characteristics of the substrate beneath the disposed waste and others types of tests. Investigative works are carried out in cooperation with authorised companies and laboratories.

TESTING THE COMPOSITION OF WASTE
Results of monitoring the quantity and composition of municipal waste in a given area in a given time period are basic input date for thinking about introducing a subsystem of an integrated waste management system. The method for determining the composition of municipal waste usually requires selecting and organizationally preparing a generally accepted method of direct sampling, sorting, weighing sorted waste components and sifting the remains, determining moisture content of the waste, statistical analysis and interpretation of results. This method focuses on the sources of waste creation, and if the implementation plan is done properly, the statistical processing provides data on the mean value, standard deviation and the level of confidence, and also provides a satisfactory picture of the composition of the entire waste streams under consideration.
